Highbridge, Concourse

Home to Yankee Stadium and Cardi B, this area of the Bronx, Community District 4, sits at the intersection of the Major Deegan Expressway and the Cross Bronx Expressway, two of the busiest highways in the country. Although Highbridge and Concourse have air quality on par with the rest of the city, childhood asthma rates in the neighborhood remain significantly higher than the city average. Poverty and incarceration rates in Highbridge and Concourse are among the highest in the city. Named after High Bridge, which carried water from the Croton Aqueduct into Manhattan, the hilly neighborhood boasts numerous parks and community gardens. Highbridge has always served as a home for immigrants, and new immigrants continue to find welcome in the neighborhood. That welcome may be strained, however, by news of recent high profile ICE raids targeting residents of Highbridge.
